Pruning

There are 3 ways to prune indoor plants:

1. Pinching
Pinching is probably the easiest way to keep your indoor plants looking good.

Simply pinch off the new growth at the end of a branch. This will cause the lateral buds to extend.

Once the lateral branches are long enough simply pinch the tips of them.

This method will ensure a compact, full growth in your indoor plants.

2. Softwood Pruning
This involves removing more than just the new growth at the end of a branch. With this method, part of the soft stem is removed.

This is a slightly more drastic form of pruning than pinching. This method is mostly used when a plant has become lopsided or hasn't been pruned in a while.

3. Hardwood Pruning
This is a last resort form of pruning and is only used when a plant has been extremely neglected. Hardwood pruning is the removal of all soft stems until only the hard, main stem remains.

This is a beneficial method because the plant starts over, and when it sends out new growth it should be fuller than originally.

So if a plant looks like it's more than halfway to the grave, don't throw it away before trying this method.
